GREEN BURIALS

East Bloomfield 1838 Cemetery offers green burials in a Forever Wild section of the cemetery. This is Nature's Way, same as our ancestors. No embalming, no fancy coffin (instead a biodegradable pine one or a cloth shroud is used), no foundation, no headstone (a small flat marker is used). Rules are the same as for a traditional burial--one person and one ash burial (or pet) per plot. Or two ash burials. Plot price is $1100 per plot. Half plots are available for one ash burial. Family Participation

Family members and/or friends may assist the funeral director in transferring the body and lowering it into the grave, making Green Burial a poignant ceremony.

Please--no plantings or decorations are permitted. The area receives an occasional mowing to keep the weeds down.

Pets are Family, Too

Cremated household pets (dogs and cats) may be buried with their owners for a small fee.
